Caffeine Benefits - Does It Boost Memory?

Similar to chocolates, Caffeine too has a bad hype among the rest of the world. Anything when consumed beyond the required quantity would have a negative impact on the consumer. Likewise, even these, when consumed in excess, could have negative impacts. At times these could entice us with rewards too.

The negative effects on consuming caffeine in excess are that it could create anxiety, queasiness – when consumed in empty stomach, raise in the heart beat, depression – at times. With regarding to Chocolate, it is not a mandatory supplement in the diet. For a healthy lifestyle and those who are addicts to sweets, there are innumerous nutritious supplements that could be substituted with.

But, as per the recent researches done, it has brought in some interesting facts in connection to caffeine – It hinders the effects of neurotransmitter in the brain (adenosine), which otherwise cause drowsiness. That is why most of us consume coffee/tea to be awake. It also facilitates the release of dopamine in the brain, which provides us with the feel of fitness.

The outcome of one of the population-based study was that consuming beverages containing caffeine like tea and coffee has a defensive impact against liver ailments. And the participants of the study were those who had increased their chance of liver ailments would include hepatitis B or C, Alcohol-addicts, obesity or other similar issues.

The outcome clearly pointed out that participants consuming coffee – 2 cups a day had a lesser chance of liver ailments by 44%, when compared to those consuming non-caffeine beverage. This study was a clinical try and so the cause for this effect is not known. The reason could be that since the caffeine beverages like coffee and tea inherit phytonutrients, which could have brought in this effect. As per another study – 2005 Norwegian, analogous benefits were with coffee in relation to liver ailments. This study insisted on consumption of coffee thrice a day to lower the chances of death due to liver cirrhosis.

As per the recent research held in Austria has proven caffeine would benefit – improving the short term memory - even for those who are not at the risk of liver diseases. As calculated using the functional magnetic resonance imaging process – the activities on the part of the brain (the frontal lobe & anterior cingulum) that are related to memory and assertiveness had increased. This study was a placebo controlled study – the participants included non-consumers of caffeine too. As per a study conducted during 2004, it was evident that the short term memory had increased only on the topics that the participants were already thinking of and was totally subdued when testing on irrelevant subjects.

Everything in this universe has two sides. Like wise, Adenosine that is controlled by coffee also calms, which could also result in anxiety in few cases. Whatsoever is the case, once we have got addicted to caffeine based beverages, the responsiveness to natural stimulants like dopamine and adrenaline are lost.
